Happy Mondays: Snow and sociability

Hello!
1. It's snowing! I know to most this is not news, but for our international readers: it's snowing! It's totally snowing and by the sounds of it will be all winter. I've never known snow in November. I know people are having all sorts of problems, and I am sorry for them, but ooh it's so pretty! Yesterday my plans went out of the window as we ran down to Holyrood Park to make a snow sofa. (pics here)
2. Went to my friends Celia and Ben's Mexican Thanksgiving on Saturday. It was lovelier than I expected. That sounds bad. For context:
I was home, I was cold, I'd been out the night before, it was far, it was snowing. I missed the right stop on the bus and it was half a mile until the next one, I was out towards Slateford when I wanted to be in Bruntsfield. I trudged back along. I fell badly on my arse in the ice. I didn't know who was going to be there. What if I was sat in the corner with a bunch of folk I didn't know or like, with a frozen bottom and a broken spirit? Oh noes!
In fact, five minutes after I arrived I was snuggled in amongst some of my favourite people, with delicious salsa and marvellous conversation. I felt - as I said at the time, like we were characters in Notting Hill, or one of that myriad of similar Richard Curtis-y films. I've always wanted to be in one of those films! I had a really lovely time, it was a slightly different balance of people from normal, many of whom I've not seen in a while and it was all positive and brilliant. To top it off, I did not in fact have to walk home in the snow, but cadged a lift from the unrivalled wonder that is Brian. Many thanks to Ben and Celia for a top night.
3. The previous night I was at Nadine's Mad Men party, also a wonderful evening. We we dressed up as beautiful ladies with heels (which, ok, was less fun walking home in the snow), we drank cocktails, we danced. I love dancing, and particularly so with Ari, but opportunities to dance are so rare. Either the music's bad, or the floor is sticky or there are sweaty people I don't like (normally all three). There are places like Vegas and Velvet with a better class of the above, but they are expensive. Very fun night with special mention to how fantastic Erin M looked in drag, as Giggles McGee. Will add photos to Facebook soon...
4. The Society of Young Publishers' Christmas event is happening on Friday, and if you're at all interested in the field of writing and publishing, you should come along. Also mince pies.
5. I'm very excited about the festive season kicking in, especially as it begins on December 1st with mine and Ari's anniversary: 6 years together. How time flies.
6. However, I'm sick again. How annoying. I remember being sick only recently. Grr.
7. Thinking of changing my hair; more specifically the colour. I think it's just a bit of winter ennui that is demanding radical head changes.
8. Went to see Harry Potter. (no real spoilers) It was ok I suppose. I think my main problem is that I know the books so well and the films are not the books. There seems to have been some crucial stuff missing, and randomly awkward stuff put it, like the dancing scene. Also, I didn't like where they cut it. Also there is my ongoing frustration with the Weasley twins being 35.
9. Ok oh dear because I just looked up how old those actors really are and it turns out they are 24. Now. Which means in the first film I remember seeing them in they were about 19. I honeslty think they look like grown men, and not at all like Weasleys, and as a general note, why don't the Weasleys in the film all have actual proper red hair like Ron does?
10. Coming along nicely with Nanowrimo - only have about 3000 words to go, so should get that done tomorrow. There's a bit of a story in their and potentially some nice bits of writing to revisit, amongst the crap.
11. My secret excitement update you may have seen on Facebook is on account of that my friends Ashley and Lorna are getting married! This is very exciting: she is a friend I went to secondary school with and I have known for 16 years, he is a comedian who I've know for about 8 years, and they met at our wedding, and fell in love, and now they're getting married. I believe that I can use this occasion to bring out the word awesome. It's awesome.
12. Ari has 500 essays due in on Friday. Please send her strong work-type vibes.
Enjoy the end of November as we slide on the ice through to the end of the year!
