Holiday, Part The First

Well, Ari told yous all I’d write in greater detail re our holiday. Great detail may translate into mind-numbing tedium, so feel free to skip it. Thing is, as well as LJ being a means of communication, it serves as our diary for our Great Trip Away (I’m sort of into capitals today) so this is also largely for our benefit.

My birthday rocked. We got back from work late and drank a bottle of Oxford Landing Chardonnay, which is getting to be our current favourite tipple. (so Bridget Jones I know) After midnight when it was officially my birthday (in Australia at least – it was one of those occasions where the time difference confused me because I didn’t technicallyturn 24 until half past three the next morning. Brisbane time. Except by then we were in Sydney which is an hour ahead again, so half four. Agh!) I opened one of my presents from Ari which was – BUFFY!!!!!!!!! Not in the flesh (unfortunately) but in the form of season 3 DVD boxset. I cuddled it tight and fell asleep…

We then got up at 5:30 in the morning (Ow - particularly when you bear in mind we were up until 2:30 drinking Chardonnay) and I opened the presents from my Mum, in the form of a Pete and Dud audio CD (which we listened to in the car around Tassie) and 8 tubes of toothpaste!!!!

(I’m a bit strange – I’m very fussy when it comes to toothpaste. There is only one brand which doesn’t make me gag, Crest, and you can’t get it over here. So my Mum sends it to me. I make no apologies.)

Then I opened my other present from Ari which was THE most beautiful dressing gown ever. I’ve been looking, almost subconsciously, for a silky dressing gown for months, and this one is lovely, it’s purple, two different shades and is fully reversible with pockets. On the back is the most beautiful Chinese dragon and I wear it at every available opportunity. I felt heartbroken to leave it behind when we went away and don’t intend to part with it again.

Anyway then go to the airport in good time for our 7:30 flight only to be told it had been cancelled and we had to wait 2 hours.

On arriving in Sydney we realised it did indeed still smell. Which was a shame. But not so much as it did when we were skint and eating our own snot for nutrition. We looked round the beautiful shops, and Ari let me have my own way ALL day. I felt like I was 5 it was the best thing in the world. We had lunch at this dodgy place where we ordered soup and a main course each and the waitress informed us this was far too much and we’d never be able to eat it, so we ordered just one soup between us, which she brought at the same time as our main courses. The food minged, so we didn’t eat it all. Turned out she was right!

So we went somewhere better for cake and wine for pudding. Ari said because it was a special occasion we should get 3 slices of different cake to share between the 2 of us. Which of course we couldn’t finish.

Ari quote ‘I love you. I love you so much I bought us too much cake’
Then we got dressed up in our best corsets and sparkliest pink nail varnish (heh heh Ari loved that bit heh heh) and went to watch the parade. Now, the parade starts at 8 and to get a good spot you’re supposed to get there at by 4. We arrived at 7:55. I bought a white feather boa and a rainbow flag and we eventually found a lovely tree which we sat up drinking wine and being flirted with by random Irish firemen, who were surprised when they found out we were gay. Didn’t really get the point of the Mardi Gras then.

Actually, it was weird holding Ari’s hand and stuff that day. I felt we were Officially Allowed To and were therefore making a statement. Which we weren’t particularly.

Anyway we had a fabuloustimedahling and will post many pics when we get them processed (hopefully we’ll get a photo disk when we do so won’t have to mess about with scanning)

Love yous, more stuff soon!
