1 - Loyalty. For all that Alex is telling all of Brisbane he has my job when I leave, he is nowhere near trained up and at the moment Dave needs us. He has a 3 week old baby and wouldn't be able to cope. Other than being a pschopathis control freak, Dave is a lovely bloke and we owe him more than we could ever repay in kindheartedness.
2 - Money. We are actually on good money and can get some debts sorted - eg paying my mortgage that I owe due to the Rich saga, before coming home to an uncertain employment future.
3 - Fiji. We have to go for a week or so for Ari to sort out some research for her play. Also affecting this, see [2]
4 - Family commitments. We have to go up to Rocky again, Ari's parents and sister are over in a couple of weeks.
5 - I don't actually hate the job, it's just draining. May be Ari does. That's because of the way she gets treated and I would too if I was her. It's good experience and good references.
The plan, though, is to work the next couple of weeks, then take a week off when Philip, Anne and Alex are here, and all trudge up to Rocky to see everyone, possibly for the last time before we leave. Then come back, work a further 3 weeks, go to Fiji for just over a week, and come home as soon as we get back (previous plan was to go to Fiji for 2 weeks early August, come back and spend a week or two getting everything sorted, and come home early September.) I'm just going to tell Dave I need to be at home for all the polive stuff. It actually only has us leaving Dockside 1 week earlier than planned, and maybe spending a little less time in Abu Dhabi, and being home just as the Festival starts, which should hopefully be good work-wise. We won't be able to get anything brilliant because we won't be able to go through an interview process, but people always need flyerers!
Didn't mean the point by point analysis to sound patronising. It's a question we ask a lot ourselves.
