Let's talk about poo.

I have been on a diet lately in an effort to rid myself of my newly acquired beer gut, and to become tanned and enviable so that when I come home I can say 'ya, well, just come back from Australia you know, it's soo hot darling yew just have to go swimming, it's the only way, ha ha ha ha...'ect in annoying smug way. It is the entire purpose of my visit here. But it is being thwarted by living in the office and then eating badly in the club and getting no excercise and becoming addicted to alcohol in the meantime. So I have swapped beer for merlot and chips for soup and when I get hungry during the day I don't eat toast with lots of butter, I eat fruit and almonds. I am already feeling much better, but unfortunately, it has given me NUTTY POO! I can actually feel the nuts on their way out. I would chew them more carefully to begin with, but to be frank the only reason I eat them is because I am fucking starving, and unmindful of the chewing 30 times rule.

Does anyone have any helpful diet suggestions? I really want to bore the bejesus out of everyone when I come home with my fantastic fitness. Recipes for good things and handy hints would be just wonderful.

Love to all,
Ari.xxxx

I wacked on a stone or so at the start of the year and I'm now trying to kill it.

Do:

Eat Fruit and Vegetables
Walk here and there

Don't:

Eat things high in sugar or fat

Do:

Lose a pound and then harp on about how good it makes you feel

Don't:

Find excuses for why your first bit of dieting success entitles you to treat yourself.

I may be wrong, but aren't nuts fairly high in calories and fat? If you replaced the nuts with apples wouldn't it be better for the weight loss (and botty)?

I did nearly a month's very strict food control at first, where I was eating very little in the way of bread, and a lot of salad. You can pretty much eat salad until you're full and not have more than 50 calories in your system to show for it.

Anyway, the secret is in the pooing. Being overweight is not a result of having eaten too much, it's a result of not having pooed enough out.

Hope that helps.

Ashley

Thanks Ashley, you're a cool man. I'm eating almonds because just a few of them really fill you up. And they're full of the good kind of calorie, and fibre, and good fats which actually help the body to digest. So you are allowed to eat nuts...just not too many. Salad I find fairly boring, so I tend to add stuff to it like haloumi and marinated chicken and all sorts of things which render the salad entirely pointless, if not more interesting. I have cut way down on bread, and that's helping immensely with general feelings of well being etc.

My problem now lies in not becoming obsessed with food or tedious, or smug, or any of the things I hate about other people I have watched diet with disgust. I don't want to develop any more loathing for my body than I already have, but nor do I want my lovely arse to disappear.

How is the lovely lovely Daisy? How are you?

Two words:

Portion control.

Bane of my goddamn life, but it's true. Eat good food (as in made from good quality ingredients, not necessarily health food), but eat less of it.

Oh, and lots of water both fills you up and makes your skin better. I need to get back on that one, as my skin's terrible right now.

Ignore me, what the hell would I know? But that's the way we're trying to do things, anyhow.

Ah, portion control. This also I am doing, by cooking less and by cunningly stacking foods on top of other foods, to fool my greedy eyes. Just now I made pumkin mash, just with a little bit of butter and rosemary, and strips of chicken fried with garlic and rosemary and mushrooms, simmered in red wine and poured over the top. With broccoli. The only bad bit of that dinner is the butter I used. But I think that I might have used the same amount of butter on, say, toast. So it's all good. I've also banned boring ingredients, so I'm trying not to eat bread at all, and I've been using pumpkin and sweet potato and aubergine as the requisite starchy/mashed/pureed/roasted bit. Having great fun with new ingredients and just making sure there is always fruit about for munching is distracting me wonderfully from having to actually think about being on a diet, or stressing about it. It's a good thing I love cooking. Oh, and Lizzie has been teaching me how to make really good soup.

I really should drink loads of water, though, and at the moment I'm not. I'm drinking coffee. I love coffee. Unfortunately my face does not. It is all red and lumpy. Sometimes stuff comes out of it.

Does red wine contain many calories?

Yes, but it also contains iron. You should drink a glass a day.

A small glass, Ariadne.

Small? Noooooo! I need at least half a bottle, otherwise I turn back into my normal state.

I turn into a small man. I am actually a Charmaine.

And mean.

I don't know why I put up with it.

If you're in Australia you should do it the Kath and Kim way: ciggies and laxatives.

Awww...Lizzie misses your poo.

Quite precisely how you're supposed to take that I don't know.
