Hello people,
Well what's new? Quite a lot, just can't remember what we've said...we moved out of Jack's place to a hostel in Fortitude Valley, directly opposite the red light district. Fun. We were woken up in the early hours of Saturday morning by a prostitute throwing bottles at someone and threatening to 'fucking glass' them. That was a fun time. So when we found a place to live that was only $80 a week for both of us (that's about 35 quid) we thought ok, bit of a fixer-upper, needs a woman's touch, but we can cope with that fine. So we moved in yesterday, with a variety of people including this alcoholic stoner called Damon who was trying to borrow money off us for drugs from day one and really wants to sleep with Ari. I don't like him. He doesn't like me. (possibly caused by the me not liking him) This morning I woke up covered in bed bug bites. I mean covered. It's 19 and counting. We also discovered there's a rat who lives in the kitchen. He's 'just, like, the resident rat, man. He's cool' (according to guess who?) The overflowing bin has been placed next to the rat hole.
Now there are certain things we can do. The kitchen can be cleaned and a secure bin bought. The bathroom can be cleaned and bath mats bought to cover the extreme lack of floor. Posters erected, throws draped, maybe a lick of paint and the place could be quite a respectable hovel. But I refuse to share the place with anyone other than Ari, Damon, Niall (the guy in charge), 2 Koreans and a Columbian. Especially in light of the following...
On a happier note...
I have not one, not three, but two quite funky and respectable jobs (I know that would have been more dramatic if I had 3, but I have 2. Get over it)
One is as a childcare assistant, doing the sort of thing I've done before - temping by going into nurseries and helping look after the kids and stuff. I'm not sure of the extent to which it would be frowned upon for me to be quite obviously infected with creatures. I wouldn't like it if I was a baby's mother. So I start that whenever they want me - that could have been this morning but on a Thursday and Friday I can't work late because of:
My other job. Fed up and pissed off with looking for work and having bricks thrown at me, I thought I'd email the comedy clubs in Brisbane to see if they had anything going, that being an ideal job for me. On the offchance. Then this guy called Dave rang me up and said he'd looked at my CV and he was sorry they didn't have anything managerial going (!) but they did have a position for floor staff if I was interested. So i went in for what posed as an interview but really was just meeting the guy and could i start tomorrow. They are a little disorganised I think. So at the moment it's just 3 hours Thursday Friday & Saturday taking tickets and putting chairs out and stuff, but it seems like a small wee happy team and Dave told me ir, given my vast experience in comedy (I must have one funky-looking CV) if ever I have any suggestions or anything that would be great. He's also keen to get ne as many hours as possible and maybe some DJing work. I have never done DJing in my life before but would love to learn. I think it's being a techie really, with a posh name. But cool! I start that tonight. I also have a meeting with Brisbane Art College today about modelling which should be cool.
Ari is waiting to hear back from STA Travel, who she had a phone interview with the other day. She really wants that one, so fingers crossed tight etc. She's also had a couple of other interviews which should yield something soon, but until then I am earning money and we'll be ok. Yey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We also have post from a couple of resorts we applied to. Which is cool.
What else? I itch. Ari is unaffected because bed bugs only suck one type of blood at a time, obviously mine just now. Bastards.
Anyway, that gives you an idea of how we're getting on just now.
I want to go home.
Except I don't. I want to go to Fiji and Melbourne and Uluru. I just don't want to be poor. It's not the same thing. I would not want to be poor back home.
If we end up staying where we are, we'll let everyone know the address.
Love you all - write more and more
