Happy Mondays: Samhuinn

Hello!
1. Was temping on reception today at the same place as last week. It was slightly more busy than last week - 10 phone calls and three personal callers. I read a lot more internet and did lots of Buffy trivia.
2. In my lunch hour, I interviewed Heather Peace from Lip Service, the new BBC3 lesbian drama. I'm not a massive fan of it, but we had an interesting wee chat. She's the only actual lesbian in the show and I asked her whether that was like being the Indian in the Village People. I'm not sure that she got my sense of humour. Will link the write-up once it's published. And, you know, written.
3. Talking of writing, I need to start NanoWrimo today. Eek. I have no plot or nothin'. Just going to start writing and see. I need to write 50,000 words by the end of November, so I'm going to aim for 2,000 words a day, on the basis of which I would be finished by the 25th, hence providing room for the inevitable fuckuppery.
4. Other work-wise, I had a ridiculous interview on Tuesday - they had interview slots 15 minutes apart and I barely had time to say anything. Whilst bummed to not have the work, I wasn't otherwise disappointed not to have got it. I then interviewed for the Job of Joy on Thursday. The interview went ok - not perfect but there was nothing I was kicking myself over and I held my own at least. They are doing second interviews this week. It is now the end of Monday and I have heard nothing, so I suspect that is a no-go. Hey ho. It's helped with my confidence levels; days spent answering the phone and dumbing down my CV to try and get some kind of job is very demoralising, so to have done acceptable at a highly-paid job that would use my brain makes me feel much better.
5. I have become aware that I use the word awesome too much and am now on a mission to stop doing so.
6. Went to Samhuinn yesterday. It was cool. I always feel genuinely better about the changing of the seasons after Samhuinn - it's cold and dark and miserable but apart from the wet feet, I'm fine with it. The fight between the winter and summer kings was particularly fantastic this year, although they could have done with cutting about half an hour in the middle.
7. Saturday night was Erin H's birthday Halloween extravaganza. I wasn't really up for it and wanted to sit on the sofa instead. So I decided to go for just a little while and not drink. Of course, I therefore stayed for ages, got horribly drunk and had a fantastic time. I went as a French revolutionary but everyone thought I was a pirate. Oh well. I saw lots of lovely folk I hadn't seen in a while and it was lovelybuns.
8. Been doing lots of knitting and watching of the Gilmore Girls. Joy.
9. Had a haircut. Went to UStar on Howe Street. It was good. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but it was good. At the end I realised I didn't have my bank card. Oh dear. I managed to put it through on my credit card and sign it (I have no idea what my PIN is). Hair looks much much better though.
10. Ari is the best cook in the world and had just a delicious lamb and mushroom casserole.
11. Ooh though we seem to be formulating a plan to go up North tomorrow. That will be nice and relaxing. I like relaxing. I really really want to go and visit Sarah in her cottage of joy and plans keep being thwarted. Damn them! (The Fates, whatever)
Ok I give up searching for interesting stories. Apparently I have done almost nothing this week. Sorry.
Have exciting weeks, kids!

Date: 2010-11-01 09:10 pm (UTC)Also apologies for being spacey and unclear when you were talking to me about the murder mystery thingamabob. Alas it just didn't come together, too many disparate entities from far away places at inconvienent times I think; c'est la vie. I am Holding That Thought for after New Year's and will definitely tell you when I next try!! =)
And agreement with Andy--all hail the power of awesome!

Date: 2010-11-01 10:07 pm (UTC)Also, Heather Pearce! Jealous. I am liking lip service even though it is terrible, because of the omg actual lesbians on telly. I keep meaning to write a post about it and then failing.
