Hello everyone, sorry it's been so long. My grandmother died, or rather, I spent a couple of days in hospital in Nambour watching her die, and then she did, and it was a relief. I have been having a horrible time. My father came over from the UAE to stay with me and it's all basically been heavy and horrible and full of grief. The only time I ever saw a death like that was when my cat got bitten by a snake and she deteriorated from the inside. Nona's last day, the cancer had reached every part of her including her lungs and she was making the most terrible sound and shaking all over. At the last second, her eyes flew open and my dad was right beside her. He said 'Go and be with Dad.' She closed her eyes and the gurgling stopped. He felt immensely priveleged to have been there at the end.
So, I have been reading the vast backlog of lj stuff, and can't comment on it all, but some of it is just priceless. Like Fliss's foray into the army - darling, your complete surprise at everything was just very funny. They shouted at you and realised you didn't want to be there so they told you to go away and think about it. And, horror! The army might send you to Iran! Why are you so keen to join an institution? Who are you trying to please? And how do your philosophical ideals add up to fighting for a government you don't believe in?
Hmm, appear to have gone slightly overboard there, but I really do want to know.
A lot of stuff has been going on lately and I might write about it later. For now though I hope you all still love us and haven't forgotten about us.

Date: 2006-04-05 05:50 am (UTC)I hope you're OK, and I'm so sorry to hear about your Nan...I know it's impossible to write condolences without sounding trite so get a hug from Lizzie on my behalf.
Don't worry, you haven't been forgotten and everyone still adores you. Well, everyone who has a heart, which obviously excludes a few.
Much love
Sian

Date: 2006-04-05 06:43 am (UTC)See, I get it. It was to gain respect in the best way available to her so that she could years down the line have real influence in an area where she could make things better.
I'm really sorry to hear about your gran (although I kinda knew already from Alex's journal I guess). I'm sure it's been really good for everyone that you were there, because you're a really strong person and must have been a real comfort and support to those who needed it.
